Vaccinations, or vaccines, are a public health approach to helping provide individuals with protection or immunity against potentially life-threatening diseases. There is growing evidence that highlights a large percentage of the adult population are not fully vaccinated for conditions and diseases that have been around for decades, such as: pertussis, tetanus, pneumococcal, influenza, and shingles.
The recent COVID-19 pandemic has placed a spotlight on the amount of misinformation and disinformation that is being circulated. Additionally, it has highlighted the increasing number of individuals who have poor vaccine literacy and who may be experiencing vaccine hesitancy. There are many evidence-based guidelines for the receipt of vaccines in adulthood, but many adults are either unaware or unsure of whether they should be immunized, or if a booster is needed.
By providing information about vaccinations, or vaccines, we are striving to assist adult populations in making evidence-based decisions, translate knowledge into compliance, and move Windsor-Essex County towards reaching the national coverage goals (e.g., 80%) of vaccine uptake.
